Ladakh being on the high altitude has an another interest for sighting for wildlife. There are different areas were one can sight for different wildlife. India`s first national park (HNP) to be established north of the main Himalaya range is the Hemis High Altitude National Park was created in 1981.
Beside being India`s best protected area for snow leopard, Lynx, Wild dog, Wolf, and many otheres wild mountain sheep and goats : blue sheep, Ladakhi urial, Ibex and Tibetan Argali (the biggest sheep in the world) living within the park gives it international biodiversity importance.
Chanthang area also has an abundance of exotic Wildlife, Kyang, (the wild ass), Dong (Wild Yak), and huge number of birds like black Necked Crane, Tibetan Sangrouse and many more of rare birds at Tsokar lake area.
Wild asses are generally found grazing near Tsokar pastureland and they are seen in moving in flocks. Rare and exotic birds like headed goose, the migratory birds, black-necked crane, the great crested grebe, and the Brahmini ducks are also found in the great Changthang area.
Nubra Valley is another interesting place, where we can spot for Yak, Himalayan marmot, Bactrian camel, Blue sheep, Ibex and many more.
